The Different Bet At Roulette

At first glance, roulette may seem like a difficult game to anyone who hasn’t tried it. As something of roulette fans ourselves, we have therefore decided to give you an easy to follow guide on the different types of bets you can make at roulette, and how much they pay out respectively. Our goal is that once you have read these, playing roulette online should be easy-peasy!

And once you have warmed up to this centuries old darling and decided on how you want to approach it, we have put together a nice list of roulette choices for you at www.palasino.com.

Before commencing, let us give you a quick outline of the roulette table and layout.

The roulette outlines
A roulette wheel has 37 slots where the numbers 1-36 are put out seemingly randomly. The last remaining number is number 0. If you’d happen to play American roulette – which we strongly advise against as the odds are twice as bad as single-zero European roulette – then you will find 38 number: 1-36 plus 0 and 00.

The game begins with the dealer setting the little white ball in motion in a counter fashion the wheel itself. The players place their bets on a neatly organized table carpet on which all the numbers and their respective colors are displayed. Once the ball lands and a number is declared the winners are determined. It’s a classical lottery, but of a more interactive character.

Straight up
Straight up bets at roulette are bets on a given number. Whenever you win you win 35:1. The “true odds” would be 36:1. In such case the game would be a break even proposition long term. It is that tiny difference, however, that makes up for the house edge. You may make as many single number bets as you please at any given spin of roulette. Do note, however, that only one number can win at anyone spin.

Split
The same principle applies as with single numbers. The only difference is that you put your chip in between two numbers, for example on the line between numbers 23 and 24. If either of those come up, you win 17:1. Technically a double number bet is the same as making two half-sized bets on the same number. The roulette payout proportions remain the same.

Street
A street bet is when you bet on an entire line of three, for example a bet covering numbers 4, 5 and 6. If you win, you are paid back 11:1.

Corner
A corner bet at roulette is very similar to a split, but with the only difference of it covering a square of four boxes/numbers instead of just two. The winning payback is 8:1.

Line
A line bet at roulette is similar to a street bet, but with the only difference being that it covers two next-to-each-other lines, such as the numbers 10-16. The winning payout is 5:1.

Snake bet
This roulette bet is when you make a zigzag looking bet that covers the entire board in a “way of the snake”-type of fashion. It includes the numbers 1-5-9-12-14-16-19-23-27-30-32-34. Put those chips out there and you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. Since it covers one third of all the numbers (one short, though), it pays 2:1.

Zero combinations
There are different creative ways to bet with the above roulette methods but in ways that include the 0. One of those is a 5-number bet and the other one is called “a basket”.

Even-money roulette bets
You may, at any time, bet on whether you believe red or black will come up, whether the next number will be even or odd (not including the 0 – the 0 is not even, but an automatic loser).

Columns and dozens
Given that there are 36 numbers in roulette spread out over three separate rows with twelve in each, it naturally follows that you can bet on any such combinations as well. You may for example bet on columns, or that the ball will land in a certain dozen (1-12, 13-24, or 25-36). A winning bet on any such pays 2:1 and has a slightly lower than one in three chance of winning.
